Paradox Questions
How to Solve Paradox Questions in Critical Reasoning
Learn how to solve paradox questions in critical reasoning by reconciling seemingly contradictory facts.
Paradox/Resolve
Question Type
Find an option that explains how two seemingly conflicting facts can both be true.
Passage-Based
CLAT LR Style
Paradox reasoning appears as part of argumentative passage clusters.
Bridge Facts
Best Approach
Pick options that connect both facts, not options that reject one fact.
One-Sided Fix
Common Trap
Options addressing only one side of the paradox usually fail.

What Is a Paradox Question
Paradox questions present two statements that look inconsistent at first glance. Your task is to choose the option that makes both statements compatible.
The correct answer does not prove one statement false. It explains why the apparent contradiction is not a real contradiction.
Identify the Two Facts Clearly
Before reading options, write the two conflicting facts in simple language. If you cannot state both facts clearly, option elimination becomes random.
In CLAT passage clusters, paradox questions often depend on one key qualifier or context condition from the passage.
How Correct Options Usually Work
Strong paradox-resolution options add a missing variable, subgroup difference, time shift, or context limitation.
They preserve both original facts and provide a logical bridge that allows both to coexist.
Eliminate Common Traps
Reject options that simply repeat one paradox fact without explaining the other.
Reject options that introduce unrelated information or force a fact to be false when the stem treats both facts as true.
Passage-Based LR Application
Because CLAT LR is passage-based, paradox questions are easier when you already map the author's argument structure and qualifiers.
A good first read reduces time spent testing irrelevant options and improves confidence under time pressure.
Practice and Review
After each paradox question, explain in one line how the chosen option reconciles both facts. This builds transfer across passages.
Prep IQ Institute can help you practise paradox and other critical reasoning tasks through passage clusters, targeted reviews, and CLAT-style mock feedback.
